As previously mentioned about a 1000 times, I’m not a big fan of the summer wardrobe, especially when holidaying. The heat, humidity and activities you do can seriously limit the array of clothes that are suitable to wear. I find myself often ending up in terribly plain outfits that are worn solely with the purpose to keep me as cool as possible, and that aren’t the most attractive.
Clothing-wise the easiest way to sass up your summer look is with a good print; be that tropical, polka dot or stripe. A print can instantly elevate a look.
However, I find that the best and most cost effective way to sass up your summer looks, is to invest in a few statement accessories. Most of mine were purchased from the high street, online from sites like eBay and depop, or even from a market stall whilst on holiday. Any accesory is a welcomed addition to your outift, but on holiday there are 3 types of accessories that really are a stand-out in my book!
This first one is a rather obvious option, everyone knows the power of a good pair of shades. Not only do they hide the bags around your eyes, but they can also make a poolside look instantly more glamorous. You can get some fairly decent trend based pairs for as little as £1 from Primark, or you can take the plunge and splurge on some designer babies! *Some day I will own a pair of Rayban Rounds!!!*
Pictured below are the sunglasses I currently have with me away on holiday, the heart shaped Lolita-esque pair are from eBay and the rest were picked up for super cheap from market stalls here in Bulgaria.
Sassy statement earrings have been EVERYWHERE this season, with Zara championing the high street selection by offering the quirkiest and most colourful designs. From the tassel to chandelier, if it’s loud and proud, get’em in your ears gals.
ASOS are also offering some of the most unique pieces I’ve seen; from watermelons to seahorses. And if there’s a time to have a sea creature dangling from your ear it’s definitely summer!
The mere wicker bag, an item once adorned by the likes of red riding hood or your a bunch of teddy bears mid-picnic, is now the must have piece of SS17. The basket bag nails the effortlessly cool Parisian Birkin vibes we all long to give off, whilst also (when being of beach bag capacity) proving to be extremely practical for summer days.
I picked up the lil beauty pictured above from Primark for my Year 9 trip to Paris. *Thinking ahead Em, good work* Understandably, being 7 years since I acquired it, it’s not exactly available for purchase, so again I’ve linked some lustworthy items below.
Investing in fun and colourful accessories will also carry you through to A/W by injecting some much-needed vibrance into the dreary weather, and the often equally as dreary jean and jumper combos!
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this weeks post!
