Home is where the Kievs are

Hey hey hey,

I’ve just spent the last two days back in the north east, after being in the midlands for a family party over the weekend, you can see the damage on my Instagram (air guitar is involved.)

Coming home is always so lovely, that sea air and the (relatively constant) cold is so comforting to me. I bloody love being back in the North East.

My Mam is a teacher and returns back to work tomorrow, and Sophie (my sis) was available in the day, so we thought why not seize the day, and our knives and  forks, and go for a girls lunch.

My town, Seaham, has recently over gone some major rejuvenation. A once crumbling ex mining town trapped in the 80s, has been updated back into a buzzing seaside town. The sea front is busting with cute cafes, bistros, shops and bars. You’re lucky to get in anywhere on a sunny weekend!

We decided to venture to The Lamp Room, I’ve been a few times before but never with my fam. It’s a beautiful setting, really cosy with rustic touches, and all the artwork on the walls surrounds the theme of the mines (or the pit, if you’re from round here), a nod to Seaham’s history.

I’m obsessed with iced coffees recently, very ‘basic’, I know. So I opted for an iced latte to drink, which for around the £2-3 mark was very reasonable. North east prices people.

For food, I wanted something filling, as usual. No messing about with any light bites.

I got the Kiev sandwich with hand cut chips. The Kiev sandwich was essentially grilled chicken breast with rocket, mayo and garlic butter. A winner every time. Served with a lil dish of coleslaw and a side salad, but obviously I had to add chips.

My sister opted for the chicken and bacon caesar salad with sweet potato fries on the side

It was all splendid and we left more than suitably full.

I always struggle deciding what to wear when I’m back home because my ‘best clothes’ are left in Leeds, where I do most of my going out to places. When I’m home I tend to just lie on the settee and binge watch the Kardashians in my Reindeer pyjamas, while making the most of the free food.

I do however keep all my holiday clothes at home, (as it’s unlikely I’ll need to whip out my gingham bikini for a stroll down Briggate.) So as a result of my limited wardrobe of predominately beachwear, I had to get creative, this dress is just a £6 poolside dress from Primark.

I bought it for my holiday in Rhodes, I adore the pattern on it, it’s very western but more wearable as its monochromatic. It has a drawstring which makes it a tad too beachy, so I covered that with a black belt and hey presto. Over this ancient black roll neck top I think it works a treat.

Thanks so much again for reading!
